My name is Pooja Humar and I am running for the position of Board Member on the University of Pittsburgh’s Student Government Board. I am a junior majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Statistics. I am currently involved with SGB as a member of the Allocations Committee. I also volunteer my time at UPMC Presbyterian, was a dancer and business manager for Mastana, a competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team, and tutored with The America Reads Project. Through these experiences I have developed a passion for working with my peers, campus organizations, and community to help my Neighbors achieve their goals.
As an allocations committee liaison I have gotten to work with so many different student groups and have really seen the value of peer to peer collaboration. If elected, one major focus would be to put more of an emphasis on peer advising. There is so much value in being able learn from those who have taken similar classes or are on the same pre-professional track. As a University we should help students take advantage of this.
Throughout the last few years I have worked on multiple research projects and have gotten so much out of each one. With this in mind, another focus of mine would be to help students get involved in research that they truly are passionate about. This would mean creating an easier way for students to learn about ongoing research at Pitt and more importantly in getting connected with professors who have research opportunities available. This would help foster more valuable professor student relationships.
I would love an opportunity to be your neighbor and serve as a Board Member on SGB. I would strive to not only work on these initiatives but also serve as a voice for the student body here at Pitt. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about my initiatives at email@example.com. Thank you and as always, Hail to Pitt!
