Marketing Resources

There are many ways for student organizations to market their programs and events. This page is designed to help groups connect with many of the FREE resources available to them!

Student Events Calendar

  • SGB has partnered with the Pitt News to create the Student Event Calendar. The calendar appears online, hosted here and is visible from the PittNews homepage. Additionally a weekly viewappears in print each Monday and on the PittNews mobile app (4,600 downloads). Weekly social media posts promote the calendar as well as individual upcoming events posted on it.

Student Affairs TV screens

  • Student Affairs Television Screens offer advertising to Pitt affiliates on the more than 30 screens throughout the William Pitt Union, Cathedral of Learning, and residence halls. The primary purpose of the Student Affairs TV Screen system is to promote events, programs, and services sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh departments and certified student organizations that enable Pitt students to fully engage in campus life. There are two types of content that can be displayed: slides or videos. Sponsoring organizations or departments may have a maximum of two (2) submitted items running on the screens at any given time. Other criteria apply as well and can be viewed here.

  • Click here to submit your content for Student Affairs TV Screens. Be sure to read all of the submission guidelines before submitting.

  • To guarantee that content is displayed during your requested time, items should be uploaded to the Pitt Box service on the TV Screen webpage at least one (1) week in advance of the requested posting date. If you have any questions please send an e-mail to smoser@pitt.edu.

Social Media

  • As you promote your programs through social media, consider using some University and Student Affairs recognized hashtags. Doing this will increase the likelihood a University account shares or retweets your event. These pages have a large followership and can expose your programs to a wider audience.
    • #H2P
    • #PittIsIt
    • #PittNow
    • #PittGrad
    • #Pitt20XX

Printed Flyers

  • Certified student organizations are eligible for photocopying services in the Student Organization Resource Center (SORC).
Note: Individual social fraternity and sorority chapters recognized by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life are not certified through the SORC and therefore, are not eligible for the SORC copy service. Greek governance organizations may not request copies on behalf of individual chapters as well.
  • Groups may receive up to 200 B&W copies or 50 colored copies per event. Groups can print on white or colored paper. Please bring a copy of the flyer with you to the SORC.

  • The SORC is located on the 8th floor of the William Pitt Union (833) and is open during the following hours: M/W 8:30am-7pm, T/H: 8:30am-5:30pm, F: 8:30am-5pm

  • More information can be found here. Questions can be referred to sorc@pitt.edu

WPTS Services

  • WPTS offers multiple unique services for student groups to take advantage of. All these are of no cost to the student organization.

  • Event Promotions

  • Student organizations can submit a PSA (promotion for a certain cause) or a KT (promotion for a certain event) to WPTS radio for no cost. These are typically 30 seconds or less and play during breaks. Groups can either record their own or submit a script to the radio station and it will then be recorded and put on air. If interested, reach out to events@wptsradio.org.

  • Groups can record a podcast to be played on the radio and hosted online to describe their organization’s mission and share how students can get involved. Click here for more information and email events@wptsradio.org if you are interested in featuring your club.

  • DJ Services

  • WPTS Radio provides Live DJ-ing services. Live DJ services cost $50/hr, but the fee is waived for University of Pittsburgh student organizations. We follow a progressive format and play our own music but will consider specific requests. Live DJ Services are reserved on a first come first serve basis. For the best chance of receiving a DJ, please submit this form 14 days prior to the event. At your event, please provide WPTS Radio with a power source (we have an extension cord, we just need somewhere to plug it in), as well as a table and two chairs.
