Biology and Psychology

My name is Ashima Agarwal and I am running for the position of Board Member on the University of Pittsburgh’s Student Government Board. I am a sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences and Psychology, with minors in Creative Writing and Chemistry. I currently serve as an Allocations liaison, and previously have been on First Year Council. My work around campus has allowed me to interact with a diverse community of students and organizations. If elected to Board, it is my hope to make such a large University feel just a little bit smaller! I hope to bring a formalized peer mentoring program so students can benefit from other student’s experiences. I also hope to work with the Office of Career Development and Placement Assistance to enhance student and alumni relations in terms of job assistance and interview prep help. I am also passionate about finding a way to create a streamlined process by which students can receive updates of programs and activities hosted by different organizations. Some other initiatives I have are to make the University greener by increasing the presence of compost bins in all university buildings and residence halls. I also want to work with the Office of the Registrar and the graduate School of Public Health to create a public health major at the undergraduate level. Lastly, I hope to increase partnerships with test-prep companies to subsidize graduate-school entrance exam testing materials and classes. The prospect of working on these initiatives and creating tangible, positive, long-lasting change on campus excites me. Pitt has afforded me so many incredible opportunities, and I want to do everything I can to give back. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me at asa115@pitt.edu. Thank you and Hail to Pitt!
